The Georgia Wind Guidebook November 2009 Updated Version

The Georgia Wind Working Group has developed a wind guidebook specific for Georgia.  There is opportunity for individuals and community wind projects as well as utility scale wind to be developed and provide a contribution to Georgia's overall energy needs.

This guidebook is intended to provide individuals, community leaders and utilities interested in developing wind with the tools and information needed to begin their project. We hope that you find this guidebook useful whether you are interested to find out more about the impacts wind power will have for Georgia, or if you want to get started with your own wind project.

Special thanks go to Wind Working Group members Mary Carr with the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Teresa Eldredge with T.J. Schell Landscape Architects, and Liz Philpot with Southern Company for their efforts to compile information for the guidebook.

The Georgia Model Wind Ordinance Guide for Local Governments: Land Based Wind Installations- Fall 2010

The University of Georgia Land Use Clinic, in coordination with the Georgia Wind Working Group, has produced a guide to accompany the Georgia Model Wind Ordinance.  The Georgia Model Wind Ordinance Guide for Local Governments: Land Based Wind Installations serves as a starting point for local governments that are interested in crafting a wind ordinance and helps to explain the provisions of the Georgia Model Wind Ordinance.

The ordinance, developed by the Georgia Wind Working Group, promotes the responsible development of wind energy while protecting local communities from potential improper siting or installation of wind energy.  The Georgia Wind Working Group would like to give special acknowledgement to the following individuals for their extensive work on the model wind ordinance:  Teresa Eldredge of TJ Schell, Mary Hallisey Hunt of Georgia Tech’s Strategic Energy Institute, Wayne Hildreth of Wind Energy Consulting and Contracting, Inc, Paul Wolff of the Tybee Island City Council, Chrissy Marlowe and Lydia Doyle of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, and Mary Carr Bendeck, Rita Kilpatrick and Glenn Mauney of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy.

Special thanks for work on the guide go to Guide Preparer, Andrew Pinson and the contributors to the guide, Jamie Baker Roskie UGA Land Use Clinic Managing Attorney, Teresa Eldredge of TJ Schell, Mary Hallisey Hunt of Georgia Tech’s Strategic Energy Institute, and Mary Carr Bendeck, Anna Cayce, Rita Kilpatrick, and Glenn Mauney of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy.
